born in Maputo, Mozambique. Lives and works in Berlin, Germany
Some of the photos in this exhibition are part of my project called “Karl Marx Strasse” that I have been working on for about a year. The idea is to compare the Karl-Marx-Straße in Berlin and the Avenida Karl-Marx in Maputo. In my point of view, both streets have much in common besides their name. One finds there mostly small Arab, Turkish and Indian shops, small immigrant businesses and it seems like an irony to me that in these streets, capitalism has gained ground. I am investigating with my photography the reality of immigrants and that this has nothing in common with the ideas of Karl Marx, the propagator of socialism.

Alana Richards -- Cork/Berlin
Initially abandoning Ireland for Paris, Alana somewhat accidently relocated to Berlin around 4 years ago. She has had frequent solo and group exhibitions in the city and all over Europe and currently works from a basement atelier a stones throw from Gorli Park.
Her work is heavily influenced by classical portraiture but draws on a wildly eclectic source base, resulting in an unnnerving magnetism rooted in the uncanny and discomfort.

Verzweigungen
Wie bindet man einen Baum in einen Gestaltungsprozess ein? Wie kann das volle Potential einzelner Äste genutzt werden? Um ein Verständnis von der Natur gegebenen Form zu entwickeln, digitalisierte ich eine Buche mit einem 3D Laserscanner. Ziel war es Objekte zu schaffen, die auf die Form der Äste reagierten. Es gestaltete sich schwierig, die Äste in bestimmte Funktionen oder Formen zu zwängen. Deshalb sollten sie die Funktionen und Formen der Möbel bestimmen. Mein Konzept unterstreicht die Vielfältigkeit der individuellen Figur und die Objekte übernehmen die Charaktereigenschaften des Astes.

Bassem Yousri -- Kairo
born 22. Dec 1980 lives and works in Cairo.
Egyptian visual artist and independent film maker.Bassem was born in Algeria in 1980 and raised in Cairo, Egypt. Yousri received his BFA in painting from the School of Fine Arts in Cairo in 2003, and his MFA in painting, drawing and sculpture from Tyler School of Art, Temple University in Philadelphia in 2009. Yousri was the recipient of a Fulbright Art’s Grant in 2006, and a fellowship from Kala Art Institute in Berkeley, California in 2010.   
The Project:
This is an initiative aiming to spread awareness and fight extremism, violence and corruption. Each word was printed as as poster and hung around Cairo in time of the revolution and till now, and is travelling to other corners of the world. The project was presented on Facebook and every person who had something to express against any kind of unfairness or evil in one word could participate and it would be printed and hung. It spreads awareness and awakens resistance through the current events.


Das Zentrum für politische Schönheit -- Berlin
ist eine Denk-, Gefühls- und Handlungsfabrik für politische Poesie und kümmert sich um die Umsetzung des Traums der Humanität. Grundanliegen sind: eine Rekonzeptualisierung des Kampfes um die Menschenrechte, eine humanitäre Kurskorrektur der Gegenwart und die Verhinderung genozidalen Massensterbens.
Das Kernkonzept besteht in der “Retrospektivierung” der Gegenwart (Schillers 9. Brief): im Dienste zukünftiger Historiker sammelt das ZPS Beweise und hinterlegt gezielt Botschaften, die das Verborgene unserer Zeit anzeigen. Das ZPS geht für die Geschichte des 21. Jahrhunderts systematisch von zwei nie dagewesenen Völkermorden in Afrika und Asien aus, welche die westliche Zivilisation einmal mehr unvorbereitet (in eigener Terminologie: “völlig überraschend”) treffen. Eine Dokumentation, die in das Innenleben einer hochtalentierten Fondsmanagerin des größten ETF auf Nahrungsmittel und in das Fleisch unserer Zivilisation blickt – zersetzt vom Bewusstsein darüber, was getan und was vergessen wird.

Benjamin Teske -- Berlin 
(* 1983 in Aschaffenburg) ist ein deutscher Regisseur und Drehbuchautor.
2006 begann er sein Studium für audiovisuelle Medien an der TF Berlin, wo er auch seine erste Regiearbeit, einen Kurzfilm mit dem Titel „Try a Little Tenderness“ nach der Vorlage „Un peu de tendresse“ des französischen Autors Martin Page mit Cosma Shiva Hagen und Adolfo Assor in den Hauptrollen drehte. Dieser Film wurde für den deutschen Nachwuchsfilmpreis 2009 nominiert.
Im Zuge der Plagiatsdiskussion um das Werk Helene Hegemanns entdeckte er auf einen Hinweis hin „frappierende Ähnlichkeiten“ zwischen seinem Kurzfilm „Try a Little Tenderness“ und der in Vice abgedruckten Kurzgeschichte Hegemanns Die Spiegelung meines Gesichts in der Erschaffung der Welt. Sein Film lief 2009 beim Festival des Max Öphuls Preis in Saarbrücken, an dem auch Hegemann teilnahm. In einer E-Mail an das Magazin bat Hegemann vor der Veröffentlichung um eine Widmung an Teske. Dieser Bitte kam Vice jedoch nicht nach, weil man zum damaligen Zeitpunkt die Tragweite dieser Widmung nicht erkannte. Hegemann sah ihre "Anleihen" als Hommage an den Film, was sie jedoch nicht davon abhielt, alle Schuld von sich zu weisen: "Da versucht jemand, auf den Zug aufzuspringen und von der Hetze gegen mich zu profitieren." Hingegen möchte Benjamin Teske lediglich, dass - wenn überhaupt - die Textvorlage Martin Pages gewürdigt wird.

„Try a Little Tenderness“ ist eine Geschichte über die Liebe und Reue, in der ein kleines bisschen Zärtlichkeit alles bedeutet.

Joshua T -- Melbourne/Berlin
Berlin-based Melbourne electroindiepop artist Joshua T paints technicolor sheets of beat driven kaleidoscopic bliss which transform his nostalgia and aching melancholia into sun-drenched anthems of jubilation.
Recently, JT toured Iceland and featured at the Reykjavik Melodica Festival 2011 and is now halfway through completion of his debut album in the confines of his home studio in Berlin with The Todd Brothers (Oscar Dawson and Joe Franklin – Dukes of Windsor/Planet Love Sound) taking mixing/co-production.
Joshua T’s explosive live show has been likened to the alluring energy and looping of Tune-Yards as he weaves a vivid tapestry of sound, employing his loop pedal and layering his guitar, vocals and beatboxing. The sound is somewhat reminiscent of his influences, “the best bits” as one fan described, LCD Soundsystem, Talking Heads, Twin Shadow & Fever Ray.

Julia Zange
wurde 1984 geboren und lebt in Berlin. Sie studierte dort bis vor ein paar Monaten an der Universität der Künste, und arbeitet gerade an einem Drehbuch.
Ihr erster Roman "Die Anstalt der besseren Mädchen" erschien 2008 bei Suhrkamp: Die Protagonistin Loretta lebt in einer Art Naturzustand in Berlin. Poesie und Welt sind miteinander verwoben. Als sie aus Trotz und Verachtung ihrem Freund gegenüber ein Kind bekommt, droht ein Angriff auf die Selbstvergessenheit. Sie hat eine kleine Konkurrentin gezeugt. Loretta flüchtet mit dem Baby aufs Land, wo sie in einer Kommune schöner, kunstbesessener Mädchen aufgenommen wird.

Henning Kober
geboren 1981 ist Autor und Arkadist. Die letzten zehn Jahre hat er schreibend auf Reisen und immer wieder in Berlin verbracht. 2009 erschien im S.Fischer Verlag sein Roman „Unter diesem Einfluss“, der die Geschichte der Brüder und Experimentalisten Janus und Bobby erzählt.
"Vertrauen ist eine Frage von Integrität und Massstäben. Der reinste und grösste Wert. Ich würde lieber sterben, als nicht mehr vertrauen zu können. Wenn ich dich anlüge oder bei dir einen falschen Eindruck erwecke, fühle ich mich schuldig. Was du daraus machst, musst du mit dir ausmachen. Ich glaube an die Unschuld, egal, wie abgedroschen das klingt. Ich glaube ans Tanzen als schönste Form des Daseins und an Verbundenheit durch Musik. Das ist das Wichtigste."

Daniela Lehmann
(*1979) based in Berlin appeared in the dance scene with her award-winning solo “Mina” at Euro-Scene Leipzig. She studied contemporary dance in Dresden, Freiburg and Berlin. Furthermore she studied Philosophie and Sociologie. Her choreographic works are based on improvisation as stage format. She loves to turn performances inside-out to touch boarders and to perform beyond the scenes. Her latest pieces merge the structures of composition for both dance and voice.
In addition to her work as contemporary dancer Daniela Lehmann hosts the Berlin edition of CUE, a monthly platform for improvised arts.

Welche Klänge waren schon vor seiner Zeit und konnten sich seiner Destruktion wiedersetzen, um über die Zeit zu bestehen?

Prishtevka
This installation is a single shot recorded in Prishtina, Kosovo, on 20th February, overlaid with recordings from an interview with Migjen Kelmendi, former rockstar, TV broadcaster and local hero. The film traces the course of the river of Prishtina, which is poignantly absent in the modern cityscape of this young country's capital. As well as visually presenting a city emerging from the trauma of war and in the grip of “turbo urbanism”, the installation addresses the issues of identity construction, the urban environment and socio-cultural means of Vergangenheitsbewältigung. The installation also functions as an audio collage, depicting the city through a collection of aural events.

Musician and DJ born in Madrid, Spain, and living now in Berlin, LINCE released in 2009 his first LP "GOLPE DE LUZ" at SO UNREAL.
While LINCE basically works as a DJ on a sophisticated uptempo club sound (playing minimal & tech-house, but sometimes also disco or experimental), as a musician explores slow, intimate and nostalgic electronic atmospheres.
He´s given live and DJ shows at places like OUI (Madrid, ES), Cuántica Festival (Granada, ES), Monkey Town (New York, USA), Monster Ronson´s, MIKZ or Temporäre Kunsthalle (Berlin, GER).

Mike Kitcher
's recent creation 'stumbling upon a disused moment' is a unique collection of sparse and melodic compositions put together using software based instruments coexisting with the contrasting sounds of various field recording endeavors. These include a day trip to 'ToysRus' ... a live metronome, elastic bands, boiling kettle, the dismantlement of a piano and the delicate sound of falling pins, all of which create a collage of intricate abstractisms, each piece with it's own diverse tale. tallulah holly-massey and alexa wilson
have worked as freelance dancers/choreographers in new zealand for the past ten years and danced for some of the country's most prestigious and up and coming choreographers. they have collaborated in dance and film on four different highly experimental projects- some of which have won awards in nz and australia- and helped initiate several co-ops/collectives, which were platforms for a new school emergence of dance in nz. they hope to do this here with ‘heart collective’ where there is a wider variety of people interested in interdisciplinary collaboration.

'polar pop'
this work is the very fledgling stage of physical explorations around simultaneously evolving and devolving as an amorphous species, which is human/animal. like regressing to infancy whilst withering in age, facades melting like icebergs, habitats disintegrating, values shifting. who are we? like a newborn animal/human learning to crawl, fragile, tenuous - fighting for its existence in a harsh environment to grow/evolve- maybe shedding dysfunctionality on the way- mixed with endangered animal on the brink of its existence struggling to survive/adapt and question marks carved on the dawning of a new age. is consciousness evolving? so we grow anyway, towards a new ideal emerging- ‘growing together’ in a ritualistic birthing away from a self-centred, individualistic, hierarchical paradigm- towards a progressive, supportive, collaborative, evolved model of social existence based on sharing expression and caring for each other whilst honouring the planet- as families of animals do- as they must do for their very survival. we have a lot to learn yet in our d/evolvement.

conor creighton
grew up in a tiny village in the irish midlands with sheep and cows as his closest friends. he moved to berlin about a year ago and since then has discovered that people can make for excellent companions too. conor earns his keep telling stories in magazines and mixing drinks in bars. at the springsalon he'll probably be doing one or the other.

with the moonshoelovers ep i set out to make something a little unpredictable and fun to listen to. i wanted sparseness as well as clear, but sometimes boisterous, melodic and at times trippy compositions which emphasize my need for conceptual and potential film score musics,,,,,, there we're no samples used, only vst instruments coexisting with the contrasting sounds of my field recording endeavors from which you'll hear noises from a day trip to 'toysrus' to the dismantlement of a piano to the delicate sound of pin drops, all creating a collage of intricate abstract isms whilst maintaining a fresh and accessible sound, each piece with it's own diverse tale. credits to friend jon kenner for lending some words on "leather face" and maxime bobo for kindly supplying me with some sax on "taksi ride" and "dog days"

becky beynon
Welsh born, Becky Beynon, first picked up a camera at aged sixteen where the subconscious exploration into female identity began.
“In time, realising the rooting of my work being from my matriarchal upbringing, the work progressed in maturity and knowledge. Yet I find the more I learn and try to understand, the less I seem to know.”
After completing a degree in Photography in the UK, Becky chose to reside in Berlin with a hope to continue her work and establish the beginnings of a career within the arts. Her first solo show will be held at Able Galerie, Berlin during June 2009.
Artist Statement
“In Between the Mop and the Bucket, 2008”
The careful construction of the stretched stockings across the scenes of domestication, aims to raise questions upon the placement of the female role within contemporary society. The work references specifically the paradox between the sexualised and domesticated female identity. The use of stockings, take on organic forms that literally restrict the normal functioning of the spaces and appliances. Domestic appliances for which are associated with the upkeep of the home, traditionally the domain of the female.

Stammt aus einer 17köpfigen Familie. Lebt jetzt alleine in Neukölln. Mit einem Generalabonnement der Bahn viel unterwegs.
Er studierte „Kreatives Schreiben und Kulturjournalismus“ an der Universität Hildesheim und war Mitbegründer und bis 2004 Herausgeber der Literaturzeitschrift „BELLA triste“. 2002 erschien sein Debüt „Milch Holz Katzen“, ein Band mit Prosaminiaturen; im Frühjahr 2007 folgte ein Erzählungsband mit dem Titel „Die blinde Fotografin“. Neben Prosa schreibt er auch dramatische Texte, zuletzt „Regen in Neukölln“. Paul liest eine Erzählung aus "Die blinde Fotografin"


philipp caspari
Philipp studierte klassischen Gesang am Mozarteum Salzburg und schloss sein Studium 2006 mit Bachelor of Arts ab. Zunehmend bildete er sich auch im Bereich zeitgenössischer Tanz fort, wodurch ein besonderes Interesse an der Verbindung von Bewegung und Stimme entstand. Er arbeitet freischaffend als Countertenor, Tänzer und Performer. Er tritt sowohl als Gesangssolist im Bereich der Ernsten Musik auf, wie auch als Darsteller in Tanz- und Musiktheaterproduktionen. Zudem entwickelt er eigene Stücke, Performances und Improvisationen. Seit 2005 lebt er in Berlin.


john blue
John Blue is a musician and composer from the US. He moved from NY to Berlin in 2007. He makes music for film, theater and performance with whatever makes noise within reach of a microphone. He regularly accompanies silent film at the Arsenal in Potsdamer Platz. Recent work includes performance with the group CHEAP, composition for Postcards from Berlin to be presented on the Berliner Fenster, and film/music installations with Tim Blue in X Wohnung Neukölln 2008.

"anhelo - sehnsucht"
Mira wurde in Taipeh/Taiwan an einem kalten Novembertag
geboren und entdeckte bereits mit drei Jahren ihren Drang, die Welt
kreativ neu zu erfinden und zu verarbeiten.Seit dem malt, zeichnet, filmt und schreibt sie. Mit einem gelegentlichen Abstecher in das Theater, wechselt sie zwischen Regie, Kamera, Skript und was sonst gerade so anfällt hin- und her.
Noch heute erfüllt sie Neugier und Staunen vor der Welt und vermag an glücklichen Tagen immer wieder Neues zu entdecken. All dies bricht sich in ihrem Kopf, vermischt sich neu und drängt immer wieder durch Zeichnungen und andere Projekten an das Licht der Welt. Wenn man sie fragt: Was machst du da? Gibt sie die sehr einfache oder ziemlich blöde Antwort (je nach Betrachtungsweise):
Meine Seele tanzt... So what?.

tsukasa yamamoto is from tokyo. she studied textile design in london and is part of the design group tyny, that designs textile, cooks and does illustrations - design related to everyday life.
"...and for your thing, i'm doing illustration, and subject is " my hospitality". and i don't think i have to explain about my hospitality by words.... if i do it, i don't have to show my drawing....and each drawing will have own titles, so people will kind of understand, i guess!?"


pete littlewood
Born and educated in rural England, Pete Littlewood has been living in Berlin since he graduated a year ago. Making ends meet with a host of low-paid, part-time jobs, he strives to mediate the plight of an over-educated and under-skilled generation; those privileged individuals that are eternally displaced, climbing over fences, trespassing in foreign fields. Pete’s poetry and prose, have been printed in several independent publications in England, as well as being featured in The Round Table Poetry Review 2007. Here in Berlin he also edits, publishes and distributes the literary fanzine, The Short Age.

Moya is the stage name of Quico Moya, a Berlin-based singer-songwriter who sings in Catalan, his mother tongue. He is obsessed about Irving Berlin, Brian Wilson, ABBA and Burt Bacharach. But he’s got some time left for Italian and French auteurs.
In 2001, a musical composition of his was rewarded by the Charles III University of Madrid with a grant for a record, which is to be released next year.
